WWE Battleground 2017 review

WOW - I thought MITB was bad but last nights PPV even top that. Just 2 good matches at all. Sorry WWE but this booking getting worst every ppv at the moment.

Kickoff Match: Aiden English defeated Tye Dillinger. English pinned Dillinger with the “Director’s Cut,”.
-> ok for a KickOff match and a surprised winner. 6 of 10 points.

1. Smackdown Tag Team Championship Match: The New Day defeated The Usos (c). New Day won an outstanding match with a Trouble in Paradise followed by a long-distance springboard elbow drop from Xavier Woods. New Day are now 3-time Tag Team Champions, and the first tag team to hold both Raw and Smackdown’s Tag Team Championships.
-> best match of the evening. Great booking and chemistry between both teams. I hope for a final match at SummerSlam. 9 of 10 points.

2. Shinsuke Nakamura defeated Baron Corbin by disqualification. Nakamura was going for his inverted powerslam, but Corbin kicked him in the groin to cause a DQ. After the match, Corbin attacked Nakamura with the Money in the Bank briefcase.
-> Just the start for a this feud. But starting with a DQ in the 1st match really looks bad to me. 6 of 10 points.

3. Elimination Match: Natalya defeated Charlotte Flair, Becky Lynch, Lana and Tamina. Becky Lynch eliminated Tamina with a Dis-arm-her, then did the same to Lana. Natalya surprised Lynch with a roll-up to eliminate her immediately after. Natalya got her knees up to block Charlotte’s moonsault, then schoolboyed her head-first into the bottom rope to get a pinfall victory. Natalya is now the number one contender to Naomi’s Smackdown Women’s Championship.
-> WOW - this is left of the womans revolution? Thats BAD, really BAD. Way to short match, Becky, Natalya and Charlotte really deserved more time and WAY better booking. 6 of 10 points.

4. United States Championship Match: Kevin Owens defeated AJ Styles (c). Owens reversed a crossface into a pin to become the 3-time United States Champion.
-> What was that? The end of the match really looks improvised. Both wrestlers really can do better and this should be the feud of the year. But this match was the worst of the evening. 4 of 10 points.

5. Flag Match: John Cena defeated Rusev. Cena hit an Attitude Adjustment on Rusev off the American flag podium through a pair of tables, then planted his flag to win the match.
-> not really interested in this one. Cena would win, we all know before. So time for a toilet break. 5 of 10 points.

6. Sami Zayn defeated Mike Kanellis. Maria tried to interfere again, but it didn’t work. Zayn won the match with a corner Exploder and a Helluva Kick.
-> why was this match that late on the evening? Sami won so the feud will continue till SummerSlam. 5 of 10 points too.

7. Punjabi Prison Match for the WWE Championship: Jinder Mahal (c) defeated Randy Orton. The Singh Brothers repeatedly interfered in the match, causing it to be 3-on-1. Orton managed to fight them off, including knocking one of the Singhs off the outer cage through a table, but was ultimately stopped by the WWE return of The Great Khali. Khali shook the cage to knock Orton down, then choked him through the cage so Mahal could climb the cage and escape.
-> thank god the ManEvent was the 2nd best match of the evening. Even if I really don´t like Orton and his egoistic behavior in WWE. The Match was pretty good. Orton looked injured in the shoulder but finished the match at all. Right winner with Jinder at the end. 8 of 10 points.

=> with all these stupid bookings THIS was the WORST PPV of the YEAR (yet). And I guess there will be some more low level ppv to come in 2017. So no more LIVE wrestling at night and just the show on demand the day after. Only NXT TakerOvers are worth watching live at the moment. (mk)
