WWE Payback 2016 Results
WWE Payback Results:
– Kickoff Match: Dolph Ziggler defeated Baron Corbin. Ziggler won by pinfall with a rollup.
– Kickoff Match for the United States Championship: Kalisto (c) defeated Ryback. Kalisto retained the championship with a Salida del Sol.
1. Number One Contender Tag Team Tournament Finals: The Vaudevillains defeated Enzo Amore and Colin Cassady. The match ended abruptly due to an injury to Enzo Amore.
2. Kevin Owens defeated Sami Zayn. Owens won with a pop-up powerbomb, then stuck around to harass Byron Saxton and do color commentary for the Intercontinental Championship match.
3. Intercontinental Championship Match: The Miz (c) defeated Cesaro. Sami Zayn ran back out to attack Kevin Owens. Cesaro had Miz tapping to a crossface, but the Zayn/Owens fight found its way into the ring. During the distraction, Miz was able to roll up Cesaro for the win. After the match, Cesaro rolled Miz back into the ring and hit a Neutralizer.
4. Dean Ambrose defeated Chris Jericho. Ambrose won a long back-and-forth match with Dirty Deeds.
5. WWE Women’s Championship Match: Charlotte (c) defeated Natalya. Referee Charles Robinson stopped the match while Charlotte had Natalya in a Sharpshooter, mirroring the Montreal Screwjob. In response, Bret Hart and Natalya put Ric Flair and Charlotte into Sharpshooters.
– In a long talking segment, Vince McMahon announced that Shane and Stephanie McMahon would both be running Raw.
6. WWE World Heavyweight Championship Match: Roman Reigns (c) defeated AJ Styles. The match initially ended via countout after Styles put Reigns through a table with a Phenomenal Forearm. Shane McMahon restarted the match, saying matches wouldn’t end like that in his new era. The match was restarted with no count-outs. Later, Reigns hit Styles with a low blow, drawing a disqualification. Stephanie McMahon then restarted the match with no disqualifications. Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson interfered, double-teaming Reigns so Styles could win. Styles hit a Phenomenal Forearm, but Reigns got his foot on the bottom rope. The Usos showed up to even things up and brawl with Gallows and Anderson. Reigns ducked another Phenomenal Forearm and hit a spear to retain the championship.
– Backstage, Shane and Stephanie McMahon made Roman Reigns vs. AJ Styles for Extreme Rules.
