WWE Summerslam 2014 results and review
Here are my thoughts about last nights show
Pre-Show Match: Rob Van Dam vs. Cesaro
*A
back-and-forth match. Cesaro got going with a huge uppercut, catching
RVD coming off the top rope. But RVD rebounded, hit a big kick and then
the Five-Star Frog Splash for the win. Wrong winner for me. 7 of 10 points
Winner via pinfall: Rob Van Dam
Opening segment: Hulk
Hogan is out on the stage to start the show. He says nothing of note,
but manages to get the city name right. So we're off to a good start. But the 9.99 thing already sucks badly.
WWE Intercontinental Championship: (c) The Miz vs. Dolph Ziggler
*The
Moneymaker is here! But it doesn't matter as we've got a new champion!
Fun start to the show. Ziggler hit the Zig Zag, but Miz countered into
the Skull-Crushing Finale, however, Ziggler kicked out at two. Ziggler
came back and was able to hit the Zig Zag to win the title. 8 of 10 points
Winner via pinfall and NEW WWE Intercontinental Champion: Dolph Ziggler
WWE Divas Championship: (c) AJ Lee vs. Paige
*A very
good match. Probably one of the better women's matches you'll see in
WWE. These two went back-and-forth in a physical matchup. AJ locked in
the Black Widow, but Paige countered with the Rampaige, a fisherman's
DDT, viciously planting AJ to win the title. 6,5 of 10 points
Winner via pinfall and NEW WWE Divas Champion: AJ Lee
Flag Match: Rusev vs. Jack Swagger
*The two
brawled before the match started, with Swagger getting the better of it
and locking in the Patriot Lock. Things got under control and off we
went. The story of the match was Rusev's injured ankle. He tried to lock
in the Accolade once, but couldn't due to the injured ankle. Swagger
got the Patriot Lock again, but Rusev countered and hit a big kick and
locked in the Accolade. Swagger held off and held off and didn't tap,
but the match was stopped after Swagger passed out. 6 of 10 points
Winner via referee's stoppage: Rusev
Lumberjack Match: Seth Rollins vs. Dean Ambrose
*Incredible match. Wild and all-out brawl. The two ended up brawling all
over the arena but ended up back in the ring. Highlights included
Ambrose doing a wild cross body onto all the lumberjacks and Rollins.
Ambrose had the match won but Kane stopped the count. At this point, it
was a Pier 6 brawl with all the lumberjacks in the ring. It came down to
Ambrose dispatching of Erick Rowan and Luke Harper, but this allowed
Rollins to wallop Ambrose with the Money in the Bank briefcase and get
the pin. Athletic, wild match. 8 of 10 points
Winner via pinfall: Seth Rollins
Grudge Match: Chris Jericho vs. Bray Wyatt
*Wyatt
hit the Sister Abagail onto the barricade on the outside and then
brought Jericho back into the ring and hit it again on the lifeless
Jericho. An extremely decisive win for Wyatt. Earlier in the match,
Wyatt kicked out of the Codebreaker after mad trash talking Jericho. 8 of 10 points too
Winner via pinfall: Bray Wyatt
Grudge Match: Stephanie McMahon vs. Brie Bella
*A
really, really solid match. Good story. Consider McMahon hasn't wrestled
in 11 years, this was great. McMahon took the first part of the match
before Bella rallied. She had the Yes Lock on McMahon, but Triple H
pulled the referee out of the ring. Nikki Bella decided to go around and
trap McMahon with Brie, but shockingly, Nikki turned on Brie and
McMahon hit the Pedigree to pick up the win. WHY NIKKI WHY? 6,5 of 10 points
Winner via pinfall: Stephanie McMahon
Grudge Match: Randy Orton vs. Roman Reigns
*A
little bit of a letdown. Match did pick up toward the end, however.
Orton hit an incredible power slam to counter the spear, and followed
with the RKO, but Reigns kicked out at the last moment. Orton went for
the dangerous punt, but Reigns tripped him up and followed with the
spear to pick up a huge win. No surprise here. 8 of 10 points
Winner via pinfall: Roman Reigns
WWE World Heavyweight Championship: (c) John Cena vs. Brock Lesnar
*Wow.
What a start to this one. They brawl right from the start and Lesnar
hits Cena with the F5 right off the bat but Cena kicks out at the last
moment! Lesnar devastating Cena to start the match. Lesnar is rag
dolling Cena, just launching him across the ring repeatedly with German
suplexes. He goes for about the 10th but Cena elbows out, fires up and
hits the Attitude Adjustment, but Lesnar kicks out at two. Lesnar does
an Undertaker sit up, laughs, gets up and tells Cena to bring it. Cena
charges but Lesnar hits a double leg and goes to town with the
ground-and-pound. Lesnar grabs Cena and hits four straight Germans,
launching Cena on the fourth. And three more. Holy cow.
Out of nowhere, Cena trips
Lesnar and locks in the STF, but Lesnar powers out and starts dropping
bombs on Cena. He hoists Cena, hits the F5 and that's it. NEW CHAMPION.
Absolute domination from start to finish. 7 of 10 points and not the brawl of the summer.
Winner via pinfall and NEW WWE World Heavyweight Champion: Brock Lesnar
